Letter writers like Goldberg should realize that their preference for political Zionism and pro-Israel groups has given them a very skewed perspective on Israel.

Want a mainstream report on a Jewish group that does not support political Zionism. How about the Washington Post just 3 days ago on reporting "Succession Unclear After Grand Rebbe's Death": ""The Satmar Hasidim are also fervent anti-Zionists. They argue that it was a sin for the Zionists to try to create a Jewish state before the Messiah's arrival and blame the Holocaust on them. Germany was forced to make reparations. So should racist Israel. Personally I think Palestine should be returned in full and political Zionism should make major amends for creating such a horrific crime against humanity, reinventing itself by pledging to fully fund and free Palestine. Start by fully respecting international law and U.N. Resolution 194 from 1948- the Palestinian refugees inalienable, legal, moral, ethical and just right of return.

Refusing to recognize racist Israel's right to exist has nothing to do with Islam- but it has all to do with the toxicity of political Zionism with its Jews preferred privileges and perks, plus a Jews-only Aliyah fantasy fueling racist Israel's refusal to respect Palestine- and the Palestinian people's basic human rights... and their true heritage. It is ludicrous for America to be buying into Israeli bigotry and arming this horrific crime against humanity.

Don't demonize and collectively condemn- and starve- the Palestinians because they wisely object to Israels' perpetual home wrecking policies. No one should be forced to compromise with the blatant injustice, inherent cruelty and institutionalized bigotry of political Zionism with its world wide war waged on the vulnerable people of Palestine.

Israel is wrong in every way and we must stop idolizing this modern monstrosity that is busy building a very nasty apartheid wall to divide, conquer and imprison the little that is left of the original Palestine. Let everyone return to their original homes and let political Zionism reinvent itself into a way to make right a terrible wrong: Fund and fully rebuild Palestine with dignity and grace- and real justice, freedom and equality for all God's children.

I am utterly horrified that the gentle and wise Palestinian human rights activist Hanan Ashrawi is attacked and demonized in your pages. It's a nefarious Zionist game indeed- insult and belittle a secular (and Christian and very well educated ) Palestinian voice as if this mess is all about Israel VS Islam... trying to make any and all Palestinian resistance to racist Israeli injustice and brutality look like some form of extremism. Righteous indignation and honesty is not extremism- it is a very reasonable response to an insane situation.

Personally, watching the way that Israel intentionally demonizes and destroys Palestinians individually and collectively, while pretending to be talking of peace, I don't think any one should be defending or promoting the idea of maintaining and sustaining "the Jewish State" with its monstrously ugly apartheid laws and walls: Political Zionism is a well funded toxic fantasy that has been wrecking homes, ruining lives and stealing Palestine for the past 100 years.

It is not just the existence of Israel's nuclear bomb that creates "the ramifications of this hidden history" which are still felt. It is Israel itself as "The Jewish State" founded with Zionist terrorism - bigotry- and genocidal tendencies.

And with terrorist attacks world wide rising sharply we seriously need to rethink our fantasies and our financial idolization of our "friend" the very racist Israel- the flashy billboard for democracy in the Middle East that perpetually imprisons and starves or expels the indigenous Palestinians.

It is utter nonsense that we must protect and promote political Zionism and the idea of Israel as "the Jewish State'. Existential deterrence can't be found with forced segregation followed by bombs and bully tactics. Existential deterrence is ensuring that all people are treated fairly and decently no matter what their perceived race or religion. Political Zionism has been doing the exact opposite by swindling, stealing and destroying Palestine in every way possible.

What is Israel.....

*Assassination of Palestinian political leaders

*5 million refugees kept by force from returning to their homes in
Palestine

*Economic strangulation of Palestinian communities

*The stealing of land by a state-sponsored settlement program

*The theft of water, the uprooting of olive trees, and the building of
450 miles of 24-foot-high concrete walls to imprison Palestinian cities
and villages.

Ignoring the ugly reality emanating from the unchecked popularity of political Zionism America has been dragged into betraying every ideal about freedom, justice and equality we are supposed to be fighting to protect. Dear Sir,

One of the loveliest things about reaching the very logical and reasonable conclusion that because of the nefariously unfair nature of political Zionism Israel really has no right to exist in any form, and Palestine should be fully free with ALL the Palestinian refugees returning to their original homes and land to rebuild lives and livelihoods, is that there is very little chance an American paper will publish such a letter.... Upside here is that fewer nasty Zionists will be harassing me and trying to shut me up. They really are quite rude. Downside is that the beseiged Palestinians are still being tormented and starved by political Zionism and a world wide war on their basic human rights.

Israel was designed to be The Jewish State and The Jewish State is political Zionism with a continued world wide investment in Jews-preferred privileges creating armed colonies with future immigrants enjoying every banquet and ball while the impoverished Palestinians are tossed mere crumbs over a concrete apartheid wall and told it is a feast. Better than the bullets and bombs Israels is bombarding them with right now... but long term at best it is only a temporary truce until one increasingly racist Israel finds a reason to totally finish off what ever is left of Palestine.

Now is a good time to say no. Just a simple NO. No more funding, arming and empowering political Zionism. No more Israel please. It's been a huge mistake.

I was delighted to see the letter by Rt Rev Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester, pointing out that England's patron saint is George of Lydda in Palestine. Just reading his gentle use of the phrase "This Palestinian" in a respectful context was a wonderful gift... Earlier today I was reading a fascinating article Cultural Activism for the Right to Return by Nader Abuljebain http://www.arab-american.net/analysis/analysis/culturalresistance/culturalresistance.html concerning how
Zionists have been intentionally erasing Palestine in every way they can. Granted the scholar phrased it much more eloquently and in great detail. But you get the point.

And who ever St George once was- I don't think the Palestinians today should be demonized, imprisoned, tormented and collectively starved until they are bullied into accepting the toxic idea that political Zionism has the right to steal and destroy anyone's home.

I do very much like the idea of a renamed and reinvigorated idea of PRO, Palestine Reunification Organization. And it is important to be looking for fresh ideas- hopeful ideas that can help lead to a just and lasting peace.

How ever I am concerned that by embracing and swallowing Jordan, this thrust of this plan will make it ever so easy for attention to be drawn away from the primary struggle with racist Israeli injustice, easily undermining and destroying the more vulnerable Jordan while Israel, fully funded, armed and protected by fools in America, continues to hold firm in every way it can. In other words, Israel as "the Jewish State" gets what it wanted all along- no right of return for Palestinians with Jordan as Palestine.

The letter writer from Walnut Creek with the back handed compliments for Molly Ivins' most recent column "Yes there is an Israeli lobby" really should be noticing that with friends like Israel, who needs enemies !

And really what do we support by supporting Israel ? A continued Aliyah fantasy of Jews preferred privileges and pride that is heavily subsidized and armed to perpetually usurp Palestinian land and rights. Is this a healthy situation for any one ? It already built a monstrously ugly concrete apartheid wall.

A two state solution 57 years down the road into hell with millions of Palestinian refugees, wrongly denied their inalienable right of return, demonized because they dare object to racist Israeli laws and walls ?

Israel's institutionalized bigotry has been shaping inequities and prison camps for the native non-Jewish population of that place so many call the Holy Land. There is nothing rational or reasonable about that. It is simply and completely cruel- and a crime against humanity. I don't have any interest seeing the movie "United 93", especially after reading Raafat S. Toss reminding us about " Islamic fascists ". Terror is terror ever where- no single religion owns it, nor is fascism linked with only one creed- political or religious. Until we reinvest in the rule of fair and just laws and foreign policies we are only creating and naming a monster of our own making.

There is good reason various terrorist groups worldwide point at Israel and use that as a recruiting tool, hijacking the Palestinians' just cause for complaint. We are fools to ignore the evidence. Political Zionism is a well funded but totally toxic ideology that has shaped a cruel and totally unjust nation on land still being stolen from Palestine. Political Zionism tiptoed in one hundred years ago, invested only in Jewish prosperity and pride. Shaped a situation whereby Zionists immigrants could more easily dismiss and destroy the native non-Jewish population of the Holy Land. Intentional genocide hiding in plain sight.

Starve them, insult them, then terrorize them. And then tell the world that poor little Israel has to defend itself. Make everything either look like it is all the Palestinians fault- or seem so complex no one bother to notice how simple it really is: Racist Israel wants the land- but not the people of the land.

Israel's right to exist is a loaded question. What is modern Israel but the well funded fantasy land of the Western world empowering the heavily armed institutionalized bigotry of political Zionism. Already Israel has built a concrete wall of hate in that place so many call the Holy Land. Already it has aggressively wrecked countless Palestinian homes, traumatized countless Palestinian families, pulverized numerous Palestinian communities, even maliciously uprooted thousands of precious olive trees.... and already it has kept millions of Palestinian refugees trapped in poverty and despair- and concentration camps.

Israel is and always was a huge mistake. We should stop trying to make peace with the idea of Israel and start trying to shape a just and lasting peace with Palestine.

Hmmmm... the letter writer from Minnesota insists that " A state that threatens other countries, supports terrorism and has been hiding its nuclear program for decades cannot be allowed to have anything to do with nuclear power."

And using this formula the letter writer from Minnesota enthusiastically advocates that America invade Iran. I suspect she did not notice that using the exact same formula America should also invade Israel the nation founded by Zionist terror- but do it first as Israel already has the WMD arsenal of nuclear weapons. Upside of America dethroning Israel is there won't be a language problem, English is welcome- as are many American citizens. It's anything Arabic and indigenous that the Zionists despise.

The London lady Zionist who naively insists that the mainstream US press and television rarely cover Israel is reminiscent of the early Zionists who insisted there was no such thing as a Palestinian. Then as now Palestinian family homes and villages were being ruined by Zionist terror, and then as now America's leadership and our mainstream news reports simply look away.

American writers and Congressmen who want to be employed learn quickly to claim to love and admire Israel, perpetuating a very dangerous pro-Israel momentum and empowering political Zionism at every turn. I think that's a big mistake. There is nothing to admire about Israel as "The Jewish State". Look at its track record. Israel is institutionalized bigotry with new immigrants coming in all the time to usurp indigenous Palestinian land and rights- and life.

If Jews world wide are so worried about the Star of David being abused by political cartoonists then they should rise up and reclaim it as a religious symbol- strip the sacred from the political entity's flag. Scott M. Goldstein's letter " Spring remembrance" certainly was beautiful and so nicely written, although I do wish people would remember that Jews were not the only ones hurt by Nazis and not the only ones to die in Nazi concentration camps.

And I am not so sure about his call concerning Darfur- is it as genuine as it might seem ?

But more importantly- please as we enjoy the wonderment of creation let us pause and think of where the lion's share of all our foreign aid and attention is being spent- Israel... and let us look more closely at what we are really paying for....

This compels hospitals to treat emergency cases only, to ensure
medication stocks last as long as possible.
