Israeli racism
I was delighted to see Riad Elsolh Hamad’s excellent letter “What they didn’t say” (July 28) concerning the crazy news coverage created by Israeli spin. I specifically appreciate that he mentioned the Palestinians’ legal and moral right to return — it really is the core of the conflict.
Israel is the displacer, free to keep making refugees, Palestinian and now Lebanese — millions of people displaced and pushed into poverty. It is not just a physical crime, it is an economic one, made even worse because political Zionism only invests in Jews. This is a very racist war.
Some one sent me photos of a protest march in New York objecting to Israeli crimes, and my favorite photo is of two gentle women in traditional Muslim dress (perhaps aware of the anti-war group Women in Pink, as they are both wearing delicate pink head scarves). The two women hold one sign that says “Free Palestinian children from Israeli Jails (Al Awda Right to Return Coalition).”
All of Palestine is a contorted series of Israeli-made prisons right now, some more punitively obvious than others. And all of Palestine’s children suffer, some more obviously, including those many children physically maimed for life by Israeli weaponry.
I used to think that making peace with Israel made sense, but now I am quite convinced that one simply should not negotiate with such cruelty, institutionalized bigotry, and blatant injustice. The Arabs of 1948 were right all along: Israel has no right to exist. I agree with Hamad: Racist Israel is doomed to fail.

Press Release: San Diegans to Protest Israeli Aggression and War Crimes in
Lebanon and Palestine
August 11, 2006
For Immediate Release
San Diego, CA - A major demonstration to protest the ongoing aggression,
massacres, and genocide Israel is committing in Lebanon and Palestine will
take place this Saturday August 12, 2006 in San Diego. The protest, which
will begin at noon at the fountain in Balboa Park, is one of numerous
protests that will take place this Saturday in cities across the US
including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and Washington DC.
The key demands of the protests are an end to all US aid to Israel, the end
of Israeli aggression and all occupation, and the return of all Palestinian
and Lebanese refugees to their homes and lands.
The massive pre-meditated Israeli onslaught on the Palestinian and Lebanese
civilian populations coupled to the unabashed support this has received from
the Bush administration and Congress has outraged people around the world.
"The US media's complicity in covering up the billions of tax money that
Israel gets from the US every year and which it uses to kill innocent
civilians will sure outrage Americans many of whom can not afford health
insurance and medicine. US aid to Israel has to stop, and the US media has
to start reporting facts" said Yousef Abudayyeh of the San Diego Chapter of
the National Council of Arab Americans. "Palestinian and Lebanese refugees
must be able to exercise their inalienable human right to return to their
homes and lands from which they have been illegally displaced by Israel"
said Dr. Manal Swairjo of Al Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition.
The San Diego protest which was called for by the local chapters of The
National Council of Arab Americans and Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to
Return Coalition, has been co-sponsored by numerous other San Diego
organizations including The International Action Center (IAC), International
Socialist Organization (ISO), Middle East Cultural and Information Center
(MECIC), Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation (MSA Freedom
Foundation), Muslim Student Association West (MSA West), The Council on
American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and The Raza Rights Coalition. The
demonstration is expected to draw hundreds of protestors.

Jews and Arabs co-existed for centuries before the onslaught of political Zionism. So-called "moderate" Arab bloggers who pride themselves on forging on-line relationships with Israeli bloggers, many of them transplants from North America, are naively allowing themselves to be used to put a good face on Israel. Israel's barbarism in Lebanon has perhaps opened their eyes once and for all to the effects of political Zionism. No one should feel good about comparing hummus recipes with privileged Americans who transplant themselves to Israel to live in historic Palestine, ninety-two percent of which was usurped by Israel from its rightful owners, who were expelled by Israel in 1948 and now are bombed in their Lebanese refugee camps. The unilateralism Israelis overwhelming voted for in the recent elections is based on the idea that security can somehow be achieved by erecting high cement walls. If anything, the barrage of rockets of all types, whether home-made or sophisticated, has shown the folly of such thinking. Although the West Bank has not seen the use of rockets against Israel, there is no reason why Palestinians will not resort to such weapons if the walls continue to be built deep inside their territories and the Israelis continue to act with arrogance and superiority toward them. All I have

Ismail Shamout (1930 – 2006) tribute by Haithem El-Zabri, July 4, 2006 http://www.palestineonlinestore.com/obituary.htm
Ismail Shammout was a refugee who lived the Palestinian experience fully, and went on to tell the story through art. Dispossession, exile, identity, suffering, perseverance, and struggle, are all predominant features of his brilliant oil paintings, and his remarkable way of advocating for his people's cause.
Shammout was born in 1930 in the Palestinian agricultural town of Lydda, son to a produce wholesale merchant. He remembered clearly how their world had turned upside down when they were driven out of their homes on July 12, 1948. The Israeli soldiers ordered them, at gunpoint, “Out! Out!” and the family of nine was instantly homeless.

Dear Editor,
Zionist Israel has been electing to expand combat for its entire existence in a multitude of large and small ways. It has been a land and rights grabbing war all along, with the vast majority of Palestinian men, women and children, many many children, right now either already impoverished refugees or on the brink of becoming impoverished refugees.
And while good and decent people such as those protesters in your video "Standing Silently for Peace" call for a ceasefire, I believe with all that I am, and all that I know- and all that I love... I believe we should be crying out for a CEASE ISRAEL. Dismantle and disarm the hate.... Stop the crime caused by political Zionism's constant investment in bigotry, injustice and war.
Cease Israel. End the toxic delusion it was ever the Jewish State. Let Palestine and all the refugees return in full to rebuild a beautiful home where all children are welcome and safe. To rebuild with dignity and recapture the true heritage of the Holy Land so sacred to all three Abrahamic faiths.
To rebuild a decent future for us all, no matter where we might reside : To create a beautiful and gentle reality where all homes, families and work are valued, and compassion combines with true justice for all, to usher in a new era, ringing in freedom every where for every one... Let Peace & Palestine return with full respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights & the Palestinian refugee's inalienable legal and moral right to return.
Sincerely,

RE: " A 'family' at war " By Jon Medved
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-08-09-family-at-war_x.htm
Dear Editor,
Israel seems to be more like a cult than a country. Brainwashed immigrants smile and happily repeat Zionist lies and propaganda, selling them like roses for the cause.
The human family is hurting because of Israel, racist Israel's tribal war on us all. Political Zionism is a totally toxic ideology... Millions of Palestinian refugees, both Christian and Muslim, have been waiting all their lives to return, to go home to their rightful homes and property. But rather than respecting their basic human rights racist Israel methodically impoverishes and expels even more Arabs... and bombs their refugee camps and the roads they might use to escape.
How can Medved and other such Jewish immigrants be "fighting for their lives" when they have full freedoms, rights, peace and prosperity here in America ! The persecuted Palestinians, and now the Lebanese, have none anywhere- they are vilified and attacked over and over and over.
Israel should end- no one need die, but Jewish immigrants should pack up their dangerous delusions and return to the West where they belong. And Palestine should return in full with full and equal rights and respect for ALL !
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/letters/bal-ed.le.10aaug10,0,6853893.story?coll=bal-opinion-letters
Dear Editor,
Regarding the letter Too late to question Israel's legitimacy by Nelson Goodman & The catchall solution: First blame the Jews op-ed by David Mamet .... Both these misguided defenders of Israel forgot one crucial key that unlocks the truth of the story to reveal the core problem with modern man made Israel and the actual ugly reality shaped by political Zionism : Israel has spent its entire history wrecking Palestinian homes ( and now refugee camps) and refusing to respect international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - specifically the Palestinian refugees inalienable legal and moral right to return to their original homes and property.
That's genocide.
If Israel's survival depends on perpetuating genocide, economically and militarily decimating millions of innocent people, and then demonizing and attacking any who dare object to such blatant injustice- attacking relatively defenseless civilian populations again and again, then Israel has no right to exist and no right to survive in a modern world where we really do know better.
It is reasonable and it is right to just say NO Israel ! And it is never too late to do the right thing...
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Dear Editor,
Bravo to Philip A. Downey for speaking up about a very important point many people refuse to verbalize because they have been so bullied by Zionists !
Israel is not America in any way shape or form, even though its many manipulative propagandists seek to make it seem like we are two peas in the pod- we are not.
America is of the people, for the people and by the people, regardless of race or religion. We are firmly rooted in the rule of fair and just laws- and equality. Israel is not. Israel is for Jewish privileges and pride- an cruel apartheid that punishes the Palestinians just for breathing and being, plus there are racist Israel's constant land and rights grabbing games including military invasions in an era when we really do know that such barbaric shenanigans are evil and wrong.
Frankly, for everyone's sake, I firmly believe that political Zionism and that insult called Israel should be totally dismantled and disarmed.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Rest in Peace, Ismail Shammout – artist, historian, activist, advocate, compassionate humanist, and a Palestinian treasure. You will be missed, but your inspiring work will live on forever. Tawfiq Zayyad’s poem, “All I Have,” is a fitting tribute to end with:
ALL I HAVE
I never carried a rifle
On my shoulder
Or pulled a trigger.
All I have
Is a lute’s memory
A brush to paint my dreams,
A bottle of ink.
All I have
Is unshakeable faith
And an infinite love
For my people in pain.

RE: Left or Right, Israelis Are Pro-War
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/09/world/middleeast/09israel.html?ref=middleeast
Dear Editor,
Loved the headline "Left or Right, Israelis Are Pro-War" !!! But what a shame that you do not yet realize that there never has been an Israeli peace camp. There are however real heroes like Rabbi Weis who lives in America and recently braved speaking out on CNN about the evils of political Zionism.
Israel as the Jewish State is an investment in armed institutionalized bigotry, escalating injustice and unchecked state sponsored terror. Whereas Palestine was and will always be peace, no matter how tight the economic stranglehold and no matter how many bombs are dropped by the IDF.
The insult called Israel has the money and the military might- but the Palestinians have the beauty of truth on their side.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: From a safe room in Israel, a mother fears for her sons. by Diana Bletter
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/15228980.htm
Dear Editor,
Bletter, an American, abandoned her true heritage the day she decided to move to Israel . Now writing pretty Zionist propaganda with an American accent she seeks to help arm and empower the institutionalized bigotry and hate that is Israel today.
Her sons have been raised to serve Israel's oppressive military occupation, clueless cogs and wheels of injustice that help keep racist Israel the home wrecking war machine going, while their mother does her gentle part by pretending Israel wants peace.
How is it an American Jew is so very free to go be a hero playing war and peace in the Holy Land, while millions and millions and millions of persecuted and impoverished Palestinians are demonized because they dare insist that the world respect the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Palestinian refugees inalienable right to return.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Dear Editor,
Greenberg does us a grave disservice by failing to notice that while there are token Arabs allowed to remain in the so-called Jewish State for now, over 5 million Palestinian refugees have been waiting 6 decades for Israel to respect their basic human rights including but not limited to their inalienable right of return.
Hezbollah and Hamas would not even exist but for racist Israeli crimes. Would there even be this nasty Israeli war leveling Lebanon right now but for Israel's epic ability to import and arm a population of bigoted fools and idiots who sincerely believe they have every right to imprison, persecute, and punish innocent Palestinians.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: the responses to Nicholas Noor's letter Hold Jews responsible for these woes
http://www.thnt.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060808/OPINION02/608080422/1080
Dear Editor,
It is no surprise to any one who has watched the Israel propaganda machine at work that Nicholas Noor's letter Hold Jews responsible for these woes from yesterday is quickly followed today by two letters of disgust.
However the hypocrisy of Zionists should be what really disgusts us, and but for their bully tactics I wager there would be a flurry of American letters firmly denouncing Israel.
Israel freely and frequently calls itself the Jewish State, welcomes "home" only Jewish immigrants, generously subsidizes Jewish privileges and pride, arms Jewish zealots and illegal settlements and only gives full and equal rights to Jews, BUT it attacks any who then complains about Jews.
Israel freely and frequently refers to the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust but it does not see that its own institutionalized bigotry and state sponsored terror are really just more of the same as millions of innocent people are impoverished, persecuted and attacked by the misnamed Jewish State.
Israel is a foreign country... it is also a racist crime against humanity. No loyal American should be supporting the state of hate named Israel.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: End This Tragedy Now
Israel Must Be Made to Respect International Law By Fouad Siniora
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/08/AR2006080800990.html
Dear Editor,
Thank you for publishing " End This Tragedy Now Israel Must Be Made to Respect International Law " By Fouad Siniora, the prime minister of Lebanon's impassioned plea for a just and lasting peace.
No words can possibly be strong enough to express what the imposition of Israel is and has been doing all along as its own self definition as "The Jewish State" creates a situation whereby generously subsidized Zionist bigots and armed immigrants perpetually attack, displace, impoverish, and demonize non-Jews.
Zionist Israel is a dangerous farce and an evil trend that will only get worse if not fully stopped. It is state sponsored terror and a scourge of toxic delusions that will only grow uglier with time. Scorning UN Resolution 194 from 1948, the Palestinian refugees inalienable right of return, racist Israel has built itself up into a monstrous home wrecking war machine of injustice and spite.
Racist Israel has chosen this course and made itself many enemies. It has also created a huge propaganda campaign to vilify resistance and righteous indignation. If it ever did have the right to exist- it no longer does. I do not think any one should be forced to compromise with such an obvious and cruel crime against humanity. All the world should be disgusted and repulsed by the armed institutionalized bigotry and barbaric brutality that is Israel today.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab
