RE: Critics of Israel 'fuelling hatred of British Jews'
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1863808,00.html

Dear Sir,

I firmly reject this twisted idea that advocating boycott of Israel spreads hatred of Jews. Israel itself as the misnamed Jewish state perpetually stealing and destroying Palestine is what is hurting Jews.

Boycott and divestment campaigns seek to educate people about the pervasive injustice, institutionalized bigotry, and actual brutality of political Zionism. Not an easy task in the face of Hasbara and a huge Zionist propaganda campaign that seeks to protect racist Israel no matter what the cost.

And to quote Uri Avnery's telling conclusion in his most recent op-ed on the media... "As has been said before: in Israel nothing changes, except the past."

I personally am a Christian who, abhorring all violence and bigotry, firmly believes that Israel should be gently but firmly dismantled and disarmed. Let Palestine and peace return to the Holy Land with full and equal rights for ALL.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Sheree Roth's "Only home for Jews"
http://www.pennlive.com/letters/patriotnews/index.ssf?/base/news/1157145006110200.xml&coll=1

Dear Editor,

I was not amused by the obvious lies and manipulations of Sheree Roth's Hasbara letter for racist Israel.

FYI :
"Hasbara refers to the propaganda efforts to sell Israel, justify its actions, and defend it in world opinion. Using contemporary euphemisms, it is Public diplomacy for Israel, or using a pejorative interpretation, then it is apologia. Israel portrays itself as fighting on two fronts: the Palestinians and world opinion. The latter is dealt with hasbara. The premise of hasbara is that Israel's problems are a matter of better propaganda, and not one of an underlying unjust situation." http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Hasbara

I have traveled through multiple Middle Eastern countries at Christmas time and been greeted by warmth and kindness and both Christmas carols and decorated trees in shops, hotels and private family homes.

Furthermore, the horrors of what happened during the Nazi Holocaust do not in any way, shape, or form justify the creation of Israel as the so called Jewish state. In fact if anything respectful memorials to the Holocaust should teach us all that arming hate, injustice and institutionalized bigotry is a very very bad idea.

And while there really are a plethora of polished propaganda sites for political Zionism to aid fools willing to help propagate a foreign country's lies, I advise you to avoid them like the plague, for political Zionism is the antithesis of real democracy with liberty, justice and equality for ALL. It is actually a very toxic ideology.

For everyone's sake, before Israel slaughters every voice, we really should be learning about Palestine from a Palestinian perspective & Palestine Remembered does exactly that http://www.palestineremembered.com/.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Hasbara

Hasbara is basically how a very foreign country has been able to invade America, manipulate our media (and our Congress please see Israel Lobby ) undermining our democracy and security- all for Israel the misnamed Jewish State.

Israel is in blatant and long term violation of multiple international laws and the Palestinians basic human rights, including but not limited to UN Resolution 194 from 1948 the Palestinian refugees inalienable right of return... a violation which in turn has enabled one very racist Israel to enthusiastically elect to invest in escalating bigotry and war, making more and more refugees- and more and more misery for many vulnerable families- year after year after year.

This Israeli made situation is insane- and cruel... totally unjust... and
despite what your Hasbara obsessed letter writer would have us believe, racist Israel has not been playing by the rules at all, and PLEASE: Contrary to what your Hasbara obsessed letter writers claim American Muslims do not have any wish to "kill you". And shame on the HNT for even publishing such a disable hate mongering racist lie!

RE: Israel Is Scooping Up Large Plots Of Land letter by Alice Depret
http://www.theday.com/re.aspx?re=59598408-2b15-454f-8252-8648feec3202

Dear Editor,

You have run some truly great letters lately- clearly explaining Israeli crimes. And I thank you for that. In particular for publishing the revealing letter today by Alice Depret, specifically cataloging Israel's ongoing land grabs and other crimes against the very much persecuted Palestinians.

In order to win this misguided war on and of terror, two words really should become well known in America because they are the main elements that make it possible for our well funded "friend" Israel as the misnamed Jewish state to arm and empower apartheid, escalating bigotry, brutality and a blatantly racist war on the native non-Jewish Palestinians :

These two words explain much about a totally toxic ideology and we would be wise to beware: "Hasbara" which is a propaganda campaign undertaken by all supporters of political Zionism, and Aliyah which is a Zionist policy which permits any Jew the "legal" right to assisted immigration and settlement in Israel, as well as automatic Israeli citizenship.

The vast majority of Israeli Jews today trace their family's recent roots to outside of the country....
this while millions of impoverished Palestinian refugees- pushed out of "Israel-proper" by Zionist terror and trapped in poverty and despair- are denied their inalienable legal, moral and ethical right to return to their original homes and land. But Hasbara prevents most Americans from seeing or understanding that this situation is evil and wrong.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Dear Editor,

Regarding "Villagers See Violations of a Cease-Fire That Israel Says Doesn’t Exist" ... before citing United Nations Resolution 1701 as a pretense for continued aggression, Israel and its many immigrant bigots really should start noticing UN Resolution 194 from 1948- the Palestinians refugees inalienable legal, moral, and ethical right of return.

RE: Not so blessed are Israel's peacemakers : Groups promoting Jewish-Arab unity set back by war
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20060901.MIDEAST01/TPStory/International

Dear Editor,

"Israeli peacemaker" is a contradiction in terms. Face the facts- Political Zionism is nothing but an investment in armed institutionalized bigotry, escalating violence and the continued theft of Palestinian land and rights. Look to see the humanitarian crisis in the prison camp Gaza to see the future of any Arab in the so-called Jewish State... it really is all just a matter of degrees.

By far the most protracted and largest of all refugee problems in the world today is that of the Palestine refugees, whose plight dates back 57 years. http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/publ/opendoc.htm?tbl=PUBL&id=4444d3c92f

And outright obvious war is not the only way racist Israel makes refugees. Routinely Israel deports Palestinians, takes away their rights, freedoms and their citizenship, legally tears families apart, destroys homes - makes life impossible.

Please- why are we asking the Palestinians to compromise with a crime against humanity!

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-brooks1sep01,0,6417195.column?coll=la-opinion-center

Dear Editor,

Yes indeed we must open up the dialogue about Israel, but focusing in on Jews insulted because they dare question Israeli policies still misses the point: It is the Palestinians who are being oppressed, vilified, imprisoned - and killed.

A real discussion about Mideast peace must welcome, embrace, understand and support true equality with respect for the rule of fair and just laws in general and specifically full focus on fully implementing the Palestinian refugees inalienable, legal and moral right to return.

Otherwise one very racist apartheid Israel will continue pulverizing Palestinian homes, making more and more refugees.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Every day hospitals receive killed and injured people, hospital use of diesel increased, to run the operation rooms, with the continuous use of the electrical generators ... no water no electricity no proper sewage system, public health greatly affected, no entertaining, no cash to buy food, increasing number of families rely on aid food alone, children do not have well balanced meals, the borders are closed, only opened rarely to let in some medications and humanitarian aid for the Unrwa, thousands of children suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome symptoms." Even Unrwa (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) cannot cope any longer, especially since the complete closure of the main Karni crossing point 10 days ago. ONE OF MANY REASONS WHY A RIGHT OF RETURN IS A MUST

The pending 'deportation' is a criminal act. It must be stopped and this man must be allowed to remain here with his family. All he wants is peace, all he wants is a homeland to call his own.... all he wants is a RIGHT OF RETURN!

You can help by spreading the word of this injustice.. please act NOW!

Below are the photos mentioned in the letter... of the visa and of his two daughters.

ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE HOLY LAND

Just in one day the state of Israel has done more to violate human rights or caused suffering to neighbouring nations than any other country does in a decade.
The arrogance is unbelievable... under the very nose of the Secretary General of the United Nations... as if he cares....
If he did, he would have been in the region two months ago... not two weeks after the 'ceasefire' supposedly went into effect.
it is obvious that no one really cares about the plight of the Palestinian people or the Lebanese.... they have no powerful lobby in Washington or anything equivilant to AIPAC.... all they want is the Right To Live.... there is no profit in that.
Here is just a small selection of excerps from today's press... Israel is truly shameless and the UN is not much better. Even the outrages from the UN are nothing but lip service... nothing is being done to rectify the situation.

>From the N.Y. TIMES...

Nine Palestinians died today in a continuing Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, including a 14-year-old boy who had gathered with friends to watch the fighting......

Taking the world hostage - The Arabs have lots to learn from Israel

For the average American, particularly of Arabic descent, some very effective political options exist today: a complete boycott of all Israeli products in the USA; a complete boycott of companies dealing and profiting from dealing with Israel; reviewing all elected officials voting and donations records as they relate to support of Israel and contacting them; encouraging the older generation to blog and write about their past; rooting-out the posers populating the major Arab blogs whose psychotic chatter is just intended to distract and create useless tangents to unwinnable debates.

I happened to drop in on a couple of these blog discussions and found annoying zionists trying to agitate and bait the legitimate visitors into stupid discussions: Here is one from one deranged woman who spouted: "When did Palestine ever exist?" Some of these bottom-feeders try to create pseudo-intelligent debate with the regulars, often quickly turning to bizarre racist statements, and others are like druggies strung out on PCP, flailing all limbs just to strike something...

I am eager to begin the criminal court proceedings against Israel for its crimes against humanity and crimes against nature. Pick your sides carefully now because if you are complicit with abetting and aiding terrorists you're goin' down!

The following article was written by a well known UAE businessman (Khalaf Ahmed Al Habtoor), however it did not mention how the American ‘friend’, Israel, attacked the USS Liberty in 1967, murdering 34 of its crew while injuring 167 - now did it mention Jonathan Pollard spying on America for Israel - nor did it mention the latest spy on America for Israel (It is AIPAC again, wrote about it here and here, and if you don’t know what is AIPAC, read more)- nor the proposed sale of sensitive AWACS technology to China by Israel - with ‘friends’ like Israel, America needs no additional ‘enemies’.

With the ’star of David’ flying over the Capitol Building and the White House - and with the Zionist Christians (Christian in name only, more about them here and here) pressing for support of Israel - it is NOT likely that the American sheep will ever wake up the fact that Israel is leading them to slaughter - just NOT ever going to happen. Jan Egeland said civilians were facing “massive problems” returning home because of as many as 100,000 unexploded cluster bombs, most of which were dropped in the last days of the war. Action Alert :: Thank El Salvador

As many of you have already known, El Salvador has decided to move their embassy to Israel from Jerusalem leaving the city with no embassies as it should be, for Jerusalem is an occupied Palestinian city and hence any diplomatic representation there would be considered a support to the illegal Israeli occupation. The decision came few days after a similar action from Costa Rica "to rectify a historical error."

Action Needed

This one is easy and simple. Send a "Thank You" email to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in El Salvador ( I couldn't find a reliable working contact for the President).

The minister's email address is: flainez@rree.gob.sv

You can use as a starting point the letter of Zahi Damuni, the president of Al-Awda Coalition, originally written to the President of El Salvador, which reads as follows:

Dear Minister

I congratulate El Salvador for moving its embassy to Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. However, I would urge following Venezuela's example of recalling your ambassador from the Zionist state, and then closing your embassy there. Only when Israel complies with international law, including implementation of the inalienable right of Palestinians to return to their homes and lands from which they were dispossessed with the imposition of the Zionist state in 1948, should El Salvador and other states consider re-establishing mutual relations.

Sincerely,

Please give it few minutes of your time.

Together we can make the difference.

Back to school! (Photos from Palestine)

It's school again!
Can you remember the first day of school?
Getting up early after a long period of unlimted joy and sleeping!
Well... this is not the case in Palestine...You can tell how an ordinary school day in Palestine goes on from those photos.
These photos were taken in Al-Khaleel (Hebron)..... http://khaledn.blogspot.com/2006/08/back-to-school-photos-from-palestine.html

Rest in Peace, Ismail Shammout – artist, historian, activist, advocate, compassionate humanist, and a Palestinian treasure. You will be missed, but your inspiring work will live on forever. Tawfiq Zayyad’s poem, “All I Have,” is a fitting tribute to end with:

ALL I HAVE

I never carried a rifle
On my shoulder
Or pulled a trigger.

All I have
Is a lute’s memory
A brush to paint my dreams,
A bottle of ink.

All I have
Is unshakeable faith
And an infinite love
For my people in pain.

Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon accomodating refugees (of all nationalities and religions) fleeing Southern Lebanon

WELCOME TO THE PALESTINE ONLINE STORE
A not-for-profit project making informational resources about Palestine more widely available

IMPORTANT NOTE: Palestine Online Store is in the midst of some changes (including office relocation as well as the director's travels in Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon). These, along with a recent surge in orders, are causing a delay in order fulfillment, and in updating the correct status of items (i.e. whether they are in stock or on back-order). Currently we are more than 2 weeks behind in shipping orders. Please be patient with us during this time.

Our latest production are bumper stickers and t-shirts bearing our "Solidarity with Lebanon" design. Fifty percent of the proceeds from these sales will be donated to relief aid to the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, which have recently been accomodating refugees (of all nationalities and religions) fleeing Southern Lebanon:

RE: There Is Silence in the Streets; Where Have All the Protesters Gone? By ANDREW ROSENTHAL
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/31/opinion/31observer.html

Dear Editor,

Contrary to what Rosenthal sees, peaceful protest really is alive and thriving in America. But it is much
more sophisticated than merely a few angry protest signs at an occasional impassioned march- which are all easily misconstrued by hate mongering propagandists seeking to demonize and destroy those who dare speak out for justice and peace- and Palestine. (And seriously lets not pretend that we are not ALL aware of the fact that the Israel Lobby tends to dominate our mainstream media.)

Peace activists are not failing in their passionate quest to educate America, our myopic media is simply failing to cover the full story. For instance, just yesterday, the First-Ever Palestine Awareness Day was held. One really should not have to shout in order to be heard.

Al Awda, organized by Zahi Damuni Ph.d., working with a newly-formed Muslim Student Association, held an all day long teach-in on a college campus, focused on explaining the plight of the Palestinian refugees. According to Damuni, the event was superlative, moving and empowering... with a "counter" protest showing up with their flags. At the end a couple of them came to indicate that their opinions were now different!

Now that's what I call a productive dialogue... and shouldn't that be the point.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Meanwhile, back in Gaza ...
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-0608310027aug31,0,5711746.story?coll=chi-newsopinion-hed

Dear Editor,

Relieved as I was to see that your editorial today remembered Gaza.... I do wish you would notice the many ways that Israel oppresses and demonizes- and harms the Palestinians.

100 years of political Zionism's institutionalized bigotry have taken their toll- and we do not help matters when we demonize the Palestinians because they dare object to being so abused, scorned and mistreated by immigrant bigots who have effectively destroyed secular Palestinian resistance to the very racist idea of creating and sustaining the so-called Jewish state.

As Ghazi Hamad, a spokesman for the Hamas government, had the grace to look within... we really should do the same:

The bacteria of stupidity on our part is allowing Zionist terror to hurt so many innocent people. The bacteria of stupidity ferments in our willingness to ignore the despicable existence of an Israeli built apartheid wall by calling it a "security barrier", and it seethes in our refusal to remember the Palestinian refugees-
By far the most protracted and largest of all refugee problems in the world today is that of the Palestine refugees, whose plight dates back 57 years.
http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/publ/opendoc.htm?tbl=PUBL&id=4444d3c92f .

And racist Israel just keeps on stealing Palestinian land and rights, making more and more Palestinian refugees, and then bombing their camps ....
The bacteria of stupidity is arming and empowering an Israeli made genocide.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

Impending Health and Environmental Disaster Threatens Gaza City

Summary

As the international community has remained silent, IOF have continued to wage a full scale offensive on the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip. During the reported period, IOF have continued their attacks on Palestinian civilians and property.

PCHR, monitoring with utmost concern the developments of this offensive, calls upon the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and United Nations, to immediately intervene to force IOF to stop this offensive and lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

RE: Jihadist games in Gaza By Walid Phares
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20060830-085515-6768r.htm

Dear Editor,

I find it rather ridiculous that a writer purportedly dedicated to the defense of democracies, choses to ignore the many times and many ways Israel attacks (and discourages) peaceful Palestinian protest.

For instance.... Palestinians in Al Khader Village nonviolently resist the Israeli Wall, despite violent [Israeli] response

http://english.pnn.ps/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=394&Itemid=1

"Signs painted with messages against occupation and for international law were held high amid Palestinian flags and hundreds of people shouting for justice.

This is not a new scene in Al Khader, a small town whose population knows suffering under occupation. It lies just south of Bethlehem, and to its west is the settler Road 60 and a difficult road block that no car can pass. To its south and east are remnants of Palestinian lands confiscated for settlements. The Israeli administration began land confiscation for Wall construction in Al Khader months ago and Palestinians there have been nonviolently demonstrating every Friday for over three.

This afternoon the Israeli soldiers who were watching over bulldozers and dredging machines tearing into the ground saw the people coming and began firing gas. Three girls were treated for sickness associated with gas inhalation."

Furthermore it is well known every where but here in America that as of this week 25% of the Palestinians democratically elected Parliamentarians are currently imprisoned by what the Palestinians astutely refer to as the "Israeli Occupation Government". If indeed various think tanks and organizations want to encourage and protect democracy both here and abroad, it makes much more sense for senior fellows affiliated with impressive sounding foundations (such as the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies) to notice and expound upon the many many ways Israel intentionally undermines actual democracy- both here... and there.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Misguided Muslim groups
Focus should be on extremists' war against the West.
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/15401769.htm

Dear Editor,

Why is it that various Muslim groups are being collectively condemned and held responsible for "Islamic" terror, while there is a sovereign, generously funded and fully armed nation state that insists on being the self proclaimed Jewish State, despite the fact that to achieve that goal it must import immigrant bigots while at the same time ethnically cleansing and oppressing indigenous Palestinians by demonizing their righteous indignation... but we do not refer to its obvious state sponsored terror by Jews on non-Jews as Jewish terror ?

To combat this rather obvious double standard (and self defeating hypocrisy) we seriously need more diversity, particularly in perspective. For instance American readers really need to be exposed to talented writers and honest thinkers such as
Palestinian journalist Khalid Amayreh who dubs Israel's Jews-preferred "democracy" a terrorocracy:

( While Amayreh's columns can be found in many publications abroad such as Al-Ahram I prefer finding them here on my favorite blog- http://umkahlil.blogspot.com/2006/08/masris-video-frontiers-of-dreams-and.html )

"Can a racist apartheid be a true democracy? If the answer for these questions is in the affirmative, then Israel is a democracy. If not, we must not hesitate to call the spade a spade.

In short, Israel is a terrorocracy, not a democracy
."

We should also call a crime a crime- and quite frankly Israel's institutionalized bigotry and brutality is very much a crime... and we seriously need to focus on not aiding and abetting that !

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

COULD IT BE.... THAT ISRAEL IS A RACIST STATE?

Purchase poster by Ricardo Levins Morales
and support The Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA)

The following article is from today's HaAretz.. it is absolutely brilliant! Please read it....

Can you really not see? By Amira Hass

Let us leave aside those Israelis whose ideology supports the dispossession of the Palestinian people because "God chose us." Leave aside the judges who whitewash every military policy of killing and destruction. Leave aside the military commanders who knowingly jail an entire nation in pens surrounded by walls, fortified observation towers, machine guns, barbed wire and blinding projectors. Leave aside the ministers. All of these are not counted among the collaborators. These are the architects, the planners, the designers, the executioners.... http://desertpeace.blogspot.com/2006/08/could-it-be-that-israel-is-racist.html

Demonic violence - Naguib Mahfouz (1911-2006)

The entire world, but especially the Arab world mourns the loss of Egyptian Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz who died yesterday at the age of 94. With about 50 novels written during his long career, Mr. Mahfouz is the only Arab to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature (1988). Egypt will rightly award him a military funeral, the highest honor bestowed at death.

On December 10, 2002, Mahfouz marked his 92nd birthday with an appeal to George Bush, the US president, to lead the world with justice rather than through military force.[1]

The following is from an interview with an Al-Ahram reporter in June 2006, before Israel began attacking Lebanon..... http://ampal.blogspot.com/2006/08/demonic-violence-naguib-mahfouz-1911.html
