League of Palestinian Artists Rejects Ankori's Dedication

After conducting a thorough review of Palestinian Art, by Israeli art historian Gannit Ankori; (Reaction Books Ltd. 2006) the League of Palestinian Artists deemed it necessary to release the following statement regarding "Part I-Foundations, pp.15-57" of the book. The three chapters making up this part are wrought with plagiarism, falsifications and the misrepresentation of sources which all lead to the distortion of facts in writing the history of Palestinian art. The author did not bother to comply with some of the most basic ethical codes of professional practice. Ankori's violations may be summed up as follows:

Free Dr. Rifqa elJa’abri

Dr. Rifqa Motlaq elJa'abri, 43 years old, from Hebron, administrative detainee, is held in Hashron Prison (Tel Mond). The Israeli army arrested her on 15 August and placed her under administrative detention order for six months.

Administrative detention means that the detainee is being held without a charge or a trial, and the detention can be extended arbitrarily.

Punishing Palestinians again and again...

I wish it would be possible--even for a glancing second--for an Israeli city to be surrounded by high walls, iron gates, shoot-to-kill soldiers and an international community that supports, or at best, looks the other way. This is exactly what has become of the many communities in Palestine, from all of Gaza, with its 1.4 million inhabitants, to smaller towns like Salfit. With absolute impunity, the Israeli government has created a far more ominous Berlin Wall, more akin to a concentration camp, by snaking Israel's barrier through Palestinian lands, and developing Palestinian "bantustans" that imprison and choke entire communities with complete indifference to the Geneva Convention and the rights of even occupied peoples. With such a reversal of fortune it would be unthinkable for United States and its European counterparts to allow such gross violations of human rights and the walls, barbed wire and soldiers would disappear before you could even utter the maligned phrase "anti-Semitism."

An Astounding lack of News on Palestine in American newspapers

Dear All,

Scanning the mainstream newspapers again today I am utterly astounded by the lack of news and opinion coverage concerning the Israel made catastrophe in Gaza and the West Bank. Lebanon is getting some attention at least- but the plight of the Palestinians, particularly those trapped in the open aired prison camp called Gaza is mainly being ignored.

Considering how much attention and money Israel gets from America this is criminal negligence....

That's not new, it's been the policy of the Israelis for the past six years. But now, there is a petition against that policy as reported in HaAretz...

Gaza's darkness

A few months ago, I spoke about the plight of ten Gaza students of occupational therapy in Bethlehem University. Except they've never been to Bethlehem. How, then, do they study, one might wonder? Try: videoconference, remote control, and out of country lab work.

And of course, without electricity, well, you can bet there are no classes.

Like almost everything else for Gaza's besieged population, welcome to the twilight zone.

Its all part of a long-standing sweeping Israeli-imposed ban that prevents residents of the Gaza Strip from studying at institutions of higher learning in the West Bank-and from traveling to the WB or Jerusalem in general and which predates the democratic election of Hamas's Change and Reform Party.....
