Weir: 'Just Another Mother Murdered'

I'd written about the Washington Post's lousy reporting on recent deaths in Gaza here.

Alison Weir has written "Just Another Mother Murdered," about the underreporting of the same incident.....

RAFAH TODAY

GAZA UNDER SIEGE
Hani Ibrahim Al Najjar, 27 years old was not on a picnic on the beach. He was a fisherman simply seeking to bring back some food to his family. Unfortunately, the sunset went westward that day and never returned. Hani was killed by an Israeli bullet fired from an Israeli naval vessel which is patrolling the beaches of Gaza Strip.

Al Najjar is not the first case; the Israeli naval vessels are constantly targeting fishermen who are simply fishing inside their homeland! "Al Najjar was hit in the head by a bullet after Israeli warships opened fire on his vessel off the coast of Gaza " said medical workers at Al Aqsa hospital in the Deir Al Balah area....

Palestine ... The Diaspora Remembered

Last January the Palestinian Solidarity Group (PSG) in my university published this 2006 wall calendar with valuable information on the Palestinian Diaspora. I know it's quite late to be used as a calendar but I still thought I'll post it here so that people can make use of the information it contains.

A word on internal fighting

I've been meaning to writing about the issue of the infighting in gaza and the west bank for a while, but mulling my approach, as well as thinking about the factors involved. Then I came across this wonderful article by the ever-reliable Amira Hass, "Not an internal Palestinian matter", with which she begins:

"The experiment was a success: The Palestinians are killing each other. They are behaving as expected at the end of the extended experiment called "what happens when you imprison 1.3 million human beings in an enclosed space like battery hens."

The Right of Return Cannot Be Dismissed

in 6 years
3859 Palestinians have been killed
762 Palestinian children have been killed
30,714 Palestinians have been wounded
15,000 Houses have been Demolished
But don't be short- sighted
It's not about 6 years of Intifada
It's been 58 years of Occupation

Dear Editor,

Regarding your letters on " Middle East blame gets spread around" .... So many wonderful letter writers ! And so many sincerely compassionate people concerned about the Middle East. Does give one great hope to see these brave souls speaking out in hopes of helping shape a better world by shaping a better understanding of what is going on in the middle East.

And what a relief to see that some of your letter writers are obviously very much aware of Zionist crimes and bully tactics, and yet they are still willing to set the record straight concerning our war mongering, apartheid making, monstrous home wrecking "friend" Israel . The way I see it is those speaking out for Palestine (and Arabs and Muslims) perceive the importance of respecting basic human rights and dignity, while those speaking up for Israel really have a screw loose.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Dangerous times for the hemisphere's press
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/opinion/15700855.htm

Dear Editor,

Regarding " Dangerous times for the hemisphere's press" .... thank you for publishing information concerning freedom of the press. We live in the information age and yet in many ways we all are very badly misinformed and distracted. It really is disconcerting and frightening that as XXXXX concludes governments chosen in free and fair elections revert to tactics that so severely restrict the freedom to develop an informed citizenry.

XXXXX report missed mentioning the USA and an obvious Zionist stranglehold on our mainstream media. A situation that ensures that America's wealth will be misspent and many innocent people in the Middle East will continue to be vilified, harassed, harmed and even murdered.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: The news " ‘We Will Not Recognize Israel,’ Palestinian Premier Affirms " & the op-ed by Sam Bahour " We Can’t Go Home Again" http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/07/world/middleeast/07mideast.html?ref=middleeast
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/07/opinion/07bahour.html

Dear Editor,

For every one's sake, I am delighted to see that you are publishing Palestinian voices, including more than one Palestinian perspective. In particular thank you for headlining Palestinian prime minister, Ismail Haniya's "We Will Not Recognize Israel" in bold print. And much as I appreciate Palestinian American businessman Sam Bahour's frustration with Israel's anti-Palestinian games, I think the point should be that we need to be building bridges with the many stateless Palestinian refugees trapped in impoverished refugee camps and in exile and despair. Palestinian refugees who have nothing except every right to return to their original homes and lands. We need to be noticing those hurt most who need us most....

All through out the Middle East generations of Palestinian children, both Christian and Muslim, have been very much traumatized and hurt by armed Israeli attacks AND a 100 year long economic stranglehold crafted by Zionist immigrants & ideologues who now freely smash Palestinian homes and hope in order to build and "protect" the so-called Jewish State. This situation is insane and wrong. In refusing to respect the Palestinian refugees legal and moral right of return Israel's immigrant bigots are rewarded for their bigotry and apartheid, rewarded for destroying Palestinian lives and communities, rewarded for building a concrete wall of hate in the Holy Land, rewarded for destroying families, rewarded for usurping security, resources, land, rights and freedoms from countless innocent people.

Israel obviously does not recognize the Palestinians' basic human rights and never has. The world should be outraged by Israel's reign of terror and bigotry. We should be disgusted by racist Israeli injustice and escalating armed violence- and for every one's sake, regardless of religion, we really should join Hamas in not recognizing Israel.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Hamas will not recognize Israel, says PM
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/article1816860.ece

Dear Sir,

Why is it that only Hamas has the courage to simply say what is.... and the wisdom to realize that formally recognizing Israel really does quite simply "amount to renouncing the land of our ancestors" .

Such betrayal is a trade off many mumbling fools seem more than willing to make, not realizing that such a move mainly gives Israel the power to impoverish even more Palestinians individually and collectively, as evidenced by continued Zionist investments in apartheid and multiple Jewish-only communities and settlements.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab

RE: Rice proves out of touch in Mideast By Trudy Rubin
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/15690344.htm
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/15690342.htm

Dear Editor,

First of all thank you for publishing Kenneth J. Gorelick's excellent letter " Media transmit the violence virus" I totally agree with his conclusion that "Television and newspapers tell us what is important, by determining what to show and where to show it. Yet, none of our national or local purveyors of news seems to take this responsibility seriously."

I am firmly convinced that the failures of our foreign policies primarily revolve around our belief in Israel... and our newspapers, our politicians and our religious leaders willingness to help political Zionism thrive. We need to stop being so nice about Zionism. Look closely and you will see that political Zionism really is a totally toxic ideology and a constant investment in institutionalized bigotry which enables armed immigrants to wage a punitively cruel and unjust economic and military war on all of Palestine.

The vast majority of Palestinians, both Christian and Muslim, are already refugees, with more and more being forced into exile, poverty and despair every day. War camp and peace camp miss the point. Israel IS apartheid- and no one should be making peace with that. Moderates and those who truly value basic human rights and dignity should be embracing and exploring the idea of a fully free Palestine.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab
